Pediatric Care

Pediatric emergency care

We are all about you and your child

Time is precious in today’s fast-paced world and the last place you want to be is in an ER. But sometimes things happen – especially with children. Trust us when you need emergency care fast and close to home. Our full-service, state-of-the art emergency room provides an entirely different ER experience for all of your major and minor emergencies, 24 hours a day.

When your child needs medical attention, West Creek Emergency Center delivers pediatric expertise in a warm and caring environment. Private, pediatric-themed rooms for our youngest patients provide families with a soothing atmosphere during their visit. All of our treatment takes place behind closed doors ensuring complete patient confidentiality.

West Creek Emergency Center also uses the Broselow System, ensuring an extra level of safety in an emergency. This system allows us to instantly access proper pediatric dosing, improve the speed and accuracy in acute preparation and administration of drugs, and reduce medical errors for our smallest patients.

Advanced Pediatric Medicine

To ensure the most advanced care is given to your child, our medical staff is entirely certified in the below pediatric-specific emergency courses:

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training is a joint venture between the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics to provide a higher level of education to first responders who treat seriously ill or injured children.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

Developed by the Emergency Nurses Association, the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) aims to improve the care of the pediatric patient by increasing the knowledge, skill and confidence of emergency nurses. The training encourages a systematic approach to initial assessment and treatment, which can vary in young individuals based on age and developmental stages.

Short ER wait times

No one wants a long wait in the emergency room. That’s why we publish our ER wait times online, on billboards and via text message. Visit hcavirginia.com or text ‘ER’ to 23000 to find out the average ER wait times at the HCA Virginia ER facilities closest to you.

If your child’s illness is serious enough to warrant a transfer, we offer direct admission to Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, which has a full service pediatric inpatient unit and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), though we hope you never have to use it.
